From Julatten we moved to the last destination on our itinerary near the town of Yungaburra, staying at Chambers Wildlife Rainforest Lodges at Lake Eacham for three nights.
Coming from Daintree our next destination was Julatten. Julatten is a vibrant community of 998, more than ten times the size of Daintree !
Having left Cairns around 10 am we drove along the coastal road with some really nice views making our way North, planning on about 2 hours driving time to Daintree.
At the start of our trip we had three nights in Cairns.
On a recent trip to Cairns we took a day trip on 7 Nov 2013 to Michaelmas Cay in the Great Barrier Reef
Now being early October as I write this post, we see the movement to Singapore of a number of cuckoo species to add to the viewing enjoyment provided by our resident species. Some of the species that can occur can be quite tricky to identify, this post will talk about the Malaysian and Hodgson’s Hawk-Cuckoos.
Sunday Sept 15 started out like any other Sunday, except for 8 of us who went out for a pelagic in the straits.
This article presents a nesting record of the The Barred Eagle-Owl Bubo sumatranus sumatranus. The species has a wide range from Myanmar, through Thailand, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore. It can adapt to the widespread monoculture habitat of oil palm plantations and is of least concern. Still it is a striking looking owl and a pleasure to see.
On July 28th we set out on another pelagic expedition, this one kindly sponsored by NParks as part of the comprehensive marine biodiversity survey.
